The Hire More Heroes Act is misguided. There is no veterans’ unemployment crisis.

“Americans may be shocked to learn that there is no veterans’ unemployment crisis. The unemployment rate in 2014 for post-9/11 veterans was 7.2 percent, the lowest level in seven years of tracking these veterans. ”

What Government Should Actually Do To Support Veterans' Employment

“The latest crisis at the Department of Veterans Affairs has called into question again the proper role of government in the care of our veterans. Whereas healthcare is clearly in shambles, veterans’ employment is another realm in which well-meaning government involvement has been inefficient at best and ineffective or counterproductive at worst. ”

Employment and Returning Veterans

“Peter Gudmundsson talked about the availability of jobs for returning service members.”

The four myths and opportunities of hiring veterans today

“In an era when “support our troops” bumper stickers are common and billboards and radio advertisements abound with rallying calls to give veterans a job, it is not surprising that many employers are overwhelmed and confused. Good intentions permeate most efforts to employ veterans at the national, state and local levels.”

Beyond Altruism

“Among the fondest memories Peter Gudmundsson ’85 has of his three years as an active-duty U.S. Marine officer was the time in 1987 when, off the coast of Vietnam, he stood on the deck of a U.S. Navy ship looking up at the Soviet planes flying overhead. What was particularly memorable, he says, was not the plane flying overhead, but the reaction of the men in his platoon”

Money For Lunch

“Money for Lunch host Bert Martinez interviewed Peter Gudmundsson. Discussed veteran hiring.”

Hundreds Attend Job Fair As Veterans Battle Unemployment At Home

“Veterans come together at Lincoln Financial Field hoping to chart the next step in their lives — post-military service. They had the chance to connect with 64 employers looking to hire. For Catie Hughes who served in the Navy, its not easy being unemployed after a long career in real estate, and having to go to a career fair for a job. ”

Helping veterans overcome job search challenges

“Mike Rollins is featured on America Now. Recently, America Now visited a RecruitMilitary job fair held at the Hurst Conference Center in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. ”

KYW 1060 News Radio (CBS): Another Veterans’ Job Fair Held at Lincoln Financial Field

“NBC10's Tracy Davidson is at Lincoln Financial Field where a job fair is being held to help veterans with gaining employment opportunities.”

Time Magazine - Vets Lost in Translation: From the Battlefield to the Office

““A veteran doesn’t know how to talk to the companies, and the companies don’t know how to talk to the veterans, and neither one knows how to find each other in a constructive matching mechanism.” ”

Job Fair in South Philadelphia Aims To Put Unemployed Veterans To Work

“The event was hosted by RecruitMilitary.com at Lincoln Financial Field. And even though the job market is tough, some companies were welcoming vets with open arms. ”

TN veterans face tough battle to find employment

“By Naomi Snyder Terry Pack was an aircraft mechanic serving in the Army in Iraq, spending two of the last six years in combat overseas. Now that he's done his service for the country, he can't even get a job doing oil changes at Sears. "It's tough,'' said the unemployed Clarksville veteran, who was honorably discharged in January. "I've been looking for any job." A congressional hea...”

Vets turn out for job fair in South Philadelphia

“By Lisa Thomas-Laury Hundreds of veterans turned out for a huge job fair at Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia on Thursday. The turnout for the Recruit Military Opportunity Expo just underscores the problem for veterans who are looking for employment. "It's been very difficult finding employment. The economic climate is a lot worse than I thought it was," said Lamont Barlowe who,...”

Job Fair Held in South Philadelphia for Area Veterans

“By Steve Tawa Military veterans from around the region were at the Phillies' ballpark on Thursday. There's no baseball yet, though. It was a job fair dedicated to former members of the armed services. When they entered Citizens Bank Park, attendees picked up a copy of the exhibitors' list. Reviewing the ads in the "Search & Employ" section gave them an idea of some of the positions th...”

All the employers in attendance were very eager to speak about the jobs they had available and to give guidance and enthusiasm to the attendees.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
The event in Philadelphia had a solid mix of potential employers and educators. As a direct result of this event I have two scheduled interviews for positions I am interested in pursuing.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
The expo is a great opportunity to network and learn about companies you otherwise wouldn’t have discovered.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
I have seen RecruitMilitary take leaps and bounds on the Opportunity Expo, bringing the leading employers in today’s job market. This is the place to be for a veteran who is looking to be recognized for skills and qualities they have received from their experience in the military. This is revolutionary for the servicemen and women transitioning into the civilian sector.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
I live 25 miles from the event location and discovered prospective employers within 5 miles of where I live.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
Some of the companies had big/regional managers at the event to talk with you and see if you fit what they were looking for. That says a lot about a business or company.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
Best job fair to go to! Everybody respects each other. Recruiters approach you. Excellent event. Thank you very much.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
Having had difficulty finding a job for over a year, it was nice to be among people that realize the struggles I have been enduring and understand them. It was great to be around companies that were willing to look at my resume and not throw it aside because they have no idea what it means to be a military soldier and automatically write off my experience.
Philadelphia Expo Attendee
A step above the rest. Great result, due to excellent marketing.
Recruiter, Aviation Industry, past Philadelphia Exhibitor

Recruiter, Medical Device Industry, past Philadelphia Expo
Excellent event! I lost my job last week but because of this event, it looks like I may be back to work as early as in a few weeks, plus getting free training!
March 2014 - Veteran Job Seeker, Army National Guard - E6
It was awesome - we are in the process of hiring 4 individuals.
Healthcare recruiter, 3/27/2014 Houston Career Fair
Very well organized. Will participate again. Lots of great potential candidates. Large breadth of experience.
Aerospace recruiter -- 3/13/14 Philadelphia Career Fair
Great event as usual.
Energy & Utilities recruiter -- 3/13/14 Philadelphia Career Fair
There are a lot more exhibitors that show up at a RecruitMilitary event than most other job fairs I've attended.
3/13/14 Philadelphia Career Fair -- Marine E-5
There is a very high chance of lining yourself up with an interview and possibly a job if you attend RecruitMilitary Opportunity Expos.
3/13/14 Philadelphia Career Fair -- Army E-7
A very well run expo. I was very impressed with the variety of employers that attended and all the information prior to the expo really helped in organizing a strategy once I was there.
3/13/14 Philadelphia Career Fair -- Marine E-7
The event was a great opportunity to see what is out there and put the human back into the job application process. The personal contacts gained were excellent.
3/13/14 Philadelphia Career Fair -- Army E-6
I received a job that very day!
1/30/14 OKC Career Fair -- Army E-6
I have not been to a military career fair in the past, but in comparison to other job fairs, this provided a better return on our investment. The candidates came prepared with resumes and were able to identify their key skill sets that would translate to civilian work.
7-24-14 Philadelphia Career Fair -- Retail recruiter
Four of the people I spoke with today could come work for me tomorrow! Great event!
August 2014 Employer -- Financial Services recruiter
Do your research and dress for the occasion. Bring at least two different resumes, one which targets the job you are trying to land. The other should be a more broad based, generic one highlighting all of the jobs skills you have.
Nov 2014 Attendee -- Navy E-7
The recurring role of "talk to everyone" is extremely important and should be embraced by each job seeker. Please continue to stress the importance of networking, not only with the recruiters but with fellow job seekers to increase the likeliness of finding a hidden opportunity.
