The Hire More Heroes Act is misguided. There is no veterans’ unemployment crisis.

“Americans may be shocked to learn that there is no veterans’ unemployment crisis. The unemployment rate in 2014 for post-9/11 veterans was 7.2 percent, the lowest level in seven years of tracking these veterans. ”

What Government Should Actually Do To Support Veterans' Employment

“The latest crisis at the Department of Veterans Affairs has called into question again the proper role of government in the care of our veterans. Whereas healthcare is clearly in shambles, veterans’ employment is another realm in which well-meaning government involvement has been inefficient at best and ineffective or counterproductive at worst. ”

Employment and Returning Veterans

“Peter Gudmundsson talked about the availability of jobs for returning service members.”

The four myths and opportunities of hiring veterans today

“In an era when “support our troops” bumper stickers are common and billboards and radio advertisements abound with rallying calls to give veterans a job, it is not surprising that many employers are overwhelmed and confused. Good intentions permeate most efforts to employ veterans at the national, state and local levels.”

Beyond Altruism

“Among the fondest memories Peter Gudmundsson ’85 has of his three years as an active-duty U.S. Marine officer was the time in 1987 when, off the coast of Vietnam, he stood on the deck of a U.S. Navy ship looking up at the Soviet planes flying overhead. What was particularly memorable, he says, was not the plane flying overhead, but the reaction of the men in his platoon”

Money For Lunch

“Money for Lunch host Bert Martinez interviewed Peter Gudmundsson. Discussed veteran hiring.”

Helping veterans overcome job search challenges

“Mike Rollins is featured on America Now. Recently, America Now visited a RecruitMilitary job fair held at the Hurst Conference Center in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. ”

Seattle employers compete for job seekers leaving the military

“The job fair was sponsored by Microsoft and produced by RecruitMilitary, a for-profit company run by veterans that organizes job fairs for veterans across the U.S. The employers with booths at the Seattle Center job fair appreciate the value of job-seekers with a military background.”

TN veterans face tough battle to find employment

“By Naomi Snyder Terry Pack was an aircraft mechanic serving in the Army in Iraq, spending two of the last six years in combat overseas. Now that he's done his service for the country, he can't even get a job doing oil changes at Sears. "It's tough,'' said the unemployed Clarksville veteran, who was honorably discharged in January. "I've been looking for any job." A congressional hea...”

Veterans and Jobs

“Matt Murphy, RecruitMilitary's Senior VP of Business Development and Sales is a guest on Washington Journal to talk about a recent report that shows the jobless rate for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is over eleven percent. He talks about connecting employers, educational institutions, and franchisors to veterans because of their character, skills and training, diversity, and securi...”

I firmly believe that the companies recruiting at the RecruitMilitary Opportunity Expo have a solid commitment to helping the transitioning military community. It’s a wonderful organization that is truly helping create a bridge from military service to the business community.

From start to end, my total experience was very positive! I followed the online directions to the event without a hitch. The parking was affordable and access was excellent. The event was well organized, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out. Lastly, the exhibitors present were engaging, very informative and offered careers that can benefit from military training!
Seattle Expo Attendee
I was very impressed with the diversity of companies that were present and the energy they brought to the event.
Seattle Expo Attendee
The Opportunity Expo was a great venue to pair military job seekers with companies targeting them. I enjoyed the chance to engage with so many companies in one venue. Plus, it’s nice to talk to military recruiters who “speak the language” and helped translate my military experience into civilian jobspeak.
Seattle Expo Attendee
From my contacts with vendors at the expo, I have already scheduled one interview, and am expecting a call for a second with a different company.
Seattle Expo Attendee
The RecruitMilitary Opportunity Expo showcased a strong variety of employers looking to fill both local and national positions, and were very engaging and shared their wealth of knowledge with jobseekers. I look forward to attending other RecruitMilitary Opportunity Expos.
Seattle Expo Attendee
It’s good to be at an event where the exhibitors understand the value of the veteran’s skills.
Seattle Expo Attendee
From beginning to end, the expo was a very positive and beneficial experience! It was well organized, every one was helpful, attentive and genuine. I was able to make a few contacts with employers and leave resumes. I left with a new sense of hope!
Seattle Expo Attendee
I was most impressed with the attitudes of all the exhibitors. They made it a point to talk to you like you were already a part of their team. I was most impressed with Amazon and AutoNation. I landed interviews with both. Well worth my effort, and I highly recommend it to anyone that has served our country to attend.
Seattle Expo Attendee
The companies’ representatives were very helpful and energetic. They were very willing to answer my questions and if there was a possible fit for my skill set, they encouraged me to apply and directed my to the correct web site.
Seattle Expo Attendee
The participating Exhibitors seemed to genuinely want prior military personnel. They didn’t just tell us to go on some website; they listened, advised and even took hard copies of our resumes. I walked away feeling like I had some real leads. I haven’t felt this positive about prospective employment for a couple of years.
Seattle Expo Attendee

Email blasts and media presence were important to us. We received coverage on the local news!
Recruiter, Education Industry, past Seattle Exhibitor
For those in the military and veterans, definitely a better opportunity to talk to people more familiar with your military background than a normal local job fair.
Army Veteran, past Seattle Expo Attendee
Excellent event! I lost my job last week but because of this event, it looks like I may be back to work as early as in a few weeks, plus getting free training!
March 2014 - Veteran Job Seeker, Army National Guard - E6
It was awesome - we are in the process of hiring 4 individuals.

I received a job that very day!

This was an excellent event. Please invite us for next year.
6/5/14 Seattle Career Fair -- Retail recruiter
Far superior to other job fairs......the candidates were well prepared, had command presence and asked smart questions.
6/5/14 Seattle Career Fair -- Law Enforcement and Security recruiter
It's an outstanding place for starting a new career. I highly recommend this expo.
6/5/14 Seattle Career Fair -- Army E-4
The recruiters were positive and motivated to speak with veterans. They seemed very prepared for who they were meeting.
6/5/14 Seattle Career Fair -- Marine E-5
I would not have had such an opportunity to communicate with so many companies any other way. This gave me options and opportunity. Thank you.
6/5/14 Seattle Career Fair -- Army spouse
Four of the people I spoke with today could come work for me tomorrow! Great event!
August 2014 Employer -- Financial Services recruiter
Do your research and dress for the occasion. Bring at least two different resumes, one which targets the job you are trying to land. The other should be a more broad based, generic one highlighting all of the jobs skills you have.
Nov 2014 Attendee -- Navy E-7
The recurring role of "talk to everyone" is extremely important and should be embraced by each job seeker. Please continue to stress the importance of networking, not only with the recruiters but with fellow job seekers to increase the likeliness of finding a hidden opportunity.
